Most small to mid-size dogs will be kept out of a garden by Mr. McGregor’s Fence®. But many large dogs and other canines will just step or jump over it. Here are some pointers for stopping them:
- Dogs and other canines can jump. So a pure electric fence won’t work because a dog in the air won’t be grounded. Even if you ground every other wire, the fence is still unlikely to work well unless it is pretty sturdy.
- Therefore, you need a barrier fence, one too tall for your target canine to sail over. Then you can stop the animal from digging under or clambering over, either with an electric fence add-on or with an anti-digging barrier. All these matters are discussed thoroughly on our dog fence website topdogfences.com, which offers barrier dog fences, electric fence add-ons, and anti-digging barriers.
- If you want a stronger charger than those offered on our dog fence website, we recommend any of the 1 to 2 joule chargers listed on our discount electric fence supply website.
- Note that www.topdogfences.com is providing fences designed to keep in dogs, with the bottom folds and electric fence add-ons being directed inward. To keep canine animals out of your garden you need to do the reverse—placing the bottom fold and/or electric fence add-on at the outside of the fence. That being said, these top dog fences will provide good garden protection, being just as good at keeping canine animals out as they are at fencing them in.
